Summit Swimming
          Swim Lesson Program
          "The Journey to the Summit"

We offer year round swimming lessons in a safe and comfortable environment.  It is extremely important that every child learns to swim competently.  Taking swimming lessons year round is very important to allow the swimmer to learn as quickly as they can and to build on their skills.  Repetition is a big part of learning to swim and by only taking lessons in the summer children forget a lot of what they learn.
We offer small groups with only a few students to each instructor.  Each swimmer is given individualized instructions and attention.  Our USS coaches train our instructors to maintain that the proper stroke techniques are taught and we do all this at a reasonable low price.  Each session is made up of eight one half-hour
l
essons for $75.00 Second swimmer is $70.00, Third swmmer is $65.00, Fourth or more $60.00.  $10.00 discount for prepaying two sessions, $15.00 for prepaying 3 sessions and $20.00 for prepaying four (4) sessions. If classes are cancelled by Summit Swimming due to weather or instructor cancellation, make up classes will be rescheduled for that Friday. Individual make up classes are not available.   Parents are permitted to watch lessons; however are asked not to interact with their child during each session.  Checks should be made out to SCAC.  The following is an outline of the levels and skills obtained as the swimmer makes "The Journey to The Summit":

Base Camp:   Ages 3 - 5 (must be potty trained),   Group size is 4-5 per instructor
Introductory Level.  The objective of this level is to introduce the swimmer to the water in a comfortable and safe environment.  The students will learn to blow bubbles, submerge their head while holding their breath, the front and back float with support, kicking with the support of the instructor and jumping in the water and returning to the side with assistance.

The Ridge: primary ages 5 - 7,  Group size is no more than 5 per instructor
Upon completing "Base Camp", the swimmer will learn to kick in streamline position with their face in the water and breathing by picking the head up and returning to the streamline position.  The swimmers will also continue to develop the back float in streamline position with proper kicking.  At this level the swimmers are striving to jump in deep water and return to the side unassisted.

Mid-Way: primary ages 6-9,  Group size is 5-6 per instructor
Capable of the Base Camp skills, the swimmers will be introduced to the proper techniques for basic freestyle, breathing every three strokes (to both sides) and backstroke, keeping arms continuous.

The Crest: primary ages 7 - 10  Group size is 5-6 per instructor
Capable of fulfilling the previous level skills, Breastroke and Butterfly are introduced.  Continue to refine freestyle and backstroke.

Summit 5: primary ages 8 - 11 Group size is 5- 6 per instructor
Having  the basics in all four strokes, the swimmer at this level will continue advancement on all four strokes.  Upon completing this level, the swimmer is capable and prepared with the proper techniques to further enhance their abilities by swimming at a competitive level in the Summit 4 group of our USS (year round) swimming program.
